Hume MRT Station
Hume MRT station is an underground station on the Downtown Line, numbered DT4, at the junction of Hume Avenue and Upper Bukit Timah Road in Bukit Batok. It runs beneath the roadside along both streets, close to Bukit Timah Hill and the Rail Corridor. Like every other stop on the Downtown Line, it is operated by SBS Transit.

Most passengers are people who live in the Hume area, including residents of nearby condominiums such as The Hillside and Parc Palais. They now have a rail link on their doorstep after years of campaigning for one. The station also serves visitors heading to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, the Rail Corridor, The Rail Mall and the Former Ford Factory, so it sees both daily commuters and people coming out for a walk or a museum visit.
History of Hume MRT station
When the Downtown Line was built, only the structural shell of this station was completed, because projected passenger numbers were too low to justify a full station. After repeated petitions from Hume residents and appeals by their Member of Parliament, Low Yen Ling, the government confirmed in March 2019 that the station would be finished. It opened on 28 February 2025, earlier than first planned, and more than 100 people were already waiting outside the entrance before it opened that morning. It is also the first underground infill station in Singapore, as the earlier infill stations were built above ground.
Inside Hume MRT station
The station is barrier-free, with wider fare gates for wheelchair users, a tactile guidance system for visually impaired passengers and lifts fitted with rear-panel mirrors. Its green, yellow and white colour scheme refers to the Rail Corridor, the old quarries and the Former Ford Factory. Andre Wee’s artwork Continuity, which depicts the factory, is on display as part of the Art-in-Transit programme. Cyclists will find 60 bicycle parking spots near the entrances.
For visitors, Hume MRT station puts the gallery Surviving the Japanese Occupation: War and its Legacies about a three-minute walk away, which makes it an easy choice for a history outing. Nature lovers can reach Bukit Batok Nature Park in around 10 minutes on foot. Dairy Farm Nature Park and Hindhede Nature Park are both within roughly 15 minutes, as are the Silo Ruins, so several green spaces can be combined in a single trip. Residents mostly use the station for everyday journeys along the Downtown Line, while weekend visitors tend to arrive for the parks, the Rail Corridor and the wartime heritage nearby.
