Most of the people using the station live in the neighbourhood or study nearby. Students and staff at Nanyang Junior College and St. Gabriel’s Primary School rely on it every school day, and it is also the closest rail stop for anyone heading to Braddell Heights Community Club or Bethesda Church and Centre. Because it sits on the Circle Line, residents can reach other parts of the island without first travelling into the city centre.
History of Lorong Chuan MRT station
The station opened to passengers on 28 May 2009, together with the rest of the Circle Line’s third stage. Work on that stretch was paused after the Nicoll Highway collapse in 2004. When building resumed in August 2005, the Land Transport Authority described Lorong Chuan as the hardest station on the stage to build, as it stands so close to schools and tall residential blocks. Just before opening, residents complained that a footpath to the station was narrow and badly lit, so extra lamps were added and the path was levelled to stop rainwater from pooling.

The station is wheelchair accessible, with wider fare gates for wheelchair users and tactile floor routes that guide visually impaired passengers from the entrances to the platforms. It also has bicycle facilities and serves as a Civil Defence shelter.
