Kent Ridge MRT Station

Kent Ridge MRT station is an underground stop on the Circle Line, carrying the station code CC24. It sits in the Kent Ridge area of Queenstown, close to where South Buona Vista Road meets Lower Kent Ridge Road, and lies directly beneath the National University Hospital Medical Centre. Most people who use the station are heading to the hospital or to the National University of Singapore, whose campus begins just to the west. Patients, visitors, hospital staff, students and lecturers make up a large share of the daily crowd. The station also serves nearby residential and commercial developments such as Ascent, Geneo and Lyndenwoods, and NUS runs internal shuttle buses that link the station with other parts of the campus.

History of Kent Ridge MRT station

When plans for this stretch of the Circle Line were unveiled in 2003, the station was called National University Hospital, and it only took the name Kent Ridge after a public poll in 2005. It opened to passengers on 8 October 2011, together with the rest of Circle Line Stages 4 and 5. In March 2025 it was announced that the Jurong Region Line will be extended here, turning the stop into an interchange that is expected to open in the early 2040s and improve links between western Singapore and the city centre.

The station is wheelchair accessible, with wider fare gates for wheelchair users and tactile floor tiles that guide visually impaired passengers from the entrances to the platforms. Look out for Poetry Mix-Up, an Art-in-Transit piece by the Mixed Reality Lab of NUS. Passengers can send an SMS to create a short poem, which then appears on a screen at the lift shaft, as a gentle reminder to look up from their phones and notice their surroundings.

For a quick meal, three food centres sit about a minute’s walk from Kent Ridge MRT station: The Dining Avenue, On The Ridge and Juz Eat. National University Hospital is roughly three minutes away on foot, which makes this the obvious stop for appointments and visits. The main National University of Singapore campus is about a 14 minute walk, or a short ride on the campus shuttle, and INSEAD Asia and Curtin Singapore are also within walking distance. Visitors with time to spare can walk about 17 minutes to Haw Par Villa, or explore Kent Ridge Park and Singapore Science Park I, which are also close by.
