History of Holland Village MRT station
Plans published in 2003 called the station simply Holland, but a public naming poll run by the Land Transport Authority in 2005 chose Holland Village, which took 87.1% of the votes against 7.1% for the alternative, Chip Bee. The name traces back to Holland Road, which honours Hugh Holland, an architect who was one of the area’s early residents. The station opened to passengers on 8 October 2011, when the Circle Line was extended to HarbourFront.

The station has a simple, minimalist layout by SAA Architects, so getting from the street to the platforms is straightforward. Its lightweight glass entrance on Holland Avenue keeps the neighbouring shophouses visible at street level, and the concourse has retail shops for commuters.
