A large share of passengers are students and staff travelling to Maris Stella High School and Bartley Secondary School. Worshippers heading to Ramakrishna Mission Singapore, Bartley Christian Church and Paya Lebar Methodist Chinese Church also use the station, as do people going to the Mount Vernon camp of the Gurkha Contingent. As of June 2024, it handled around 5,640 passengers a day. Two exits lead out to the surrounding streets, and there are two bus stops nearby for onward journeys.
History of Bartley MRT station
Bartley opened to passengers on 28 May 2009 together with the other stations in the third stage of the Circle Line. Its name came from a public survey in which “Bartley” was the most popular choice. Building work on this stage was paused after the Nicoll Highway collapse in 2004 and only resumed in August 2005. For almost a year after opening, the station was the end of the line, until services were extended to Dhoby Ghaut on 17 April 2010.

The station is wheelchair accessible, with wider fare gates, and tactile routes guide visually impaired passengers from the entrances down to the platforms. Bicycle facilities are provided, and the station is also a Civil Defence shelter. Near the ticket machines, look out for The Coin Mat by Jane Lee, an Art in Transit work made from 164,800 one-cent coins fixed to a wall, some showing the Vanda Miss Joaquim and others the Singapore coat of arms.
For residents and visitors, Bartley MRT station is a handy base for everyday errands and short outings in this part of Serangoon. Bidadari Greenway is about a four minute walk away and suits an unhurried stroll. For a meal, Tam Chiak Kopitiam is roughly eight minutes on foot, with Café Marc and Eat Inn a little further out.
