History of Nibong LRT station
The station opened on 29 June 2014, one of three stations that together marked the start of service on the West Loop. This loop opened almost a decade after the East Loop because, in the line’s early years, the western side of Punggol had far fewer residents. At first, trains on the West Loop ran in only one direction at a time, with morning services starting here and heading towards Punggol at intervals of 7 to 8 minutes. Services in both directions began on 29 September 2018 as passenger numbers grew.

Trains calling here are fully automated Crystal Mover vehicles running without a driver on board. Two-car trains have operated on the line since December 2016 to add capacity. A new fleet of 25 two-car trains entered service in 2025, replacing many of the older single-car units, so passengers are increasingly likely to board a longer, newer train at Nibong LRT station.
For residents, the station is mainly useful for local needs. The Punggol Parc Terraces Residents’ Network is about a minute’s walk away, and the Punggol BayVue Residents’ Network is around five minutes on foot.
