For most riders, Layar LRT station is the first or last leg of a longer trip rather than a destination in itself.

History of Layar LRT station

Layar opened on 29 January 2005, when the West Loop began passenger service, two years after the East Loop. In its early years, trains on the West Loop ran in only one direction at a time, following the main flow of commuters: anti-clockwise in the morning and clockwise from the afternoon. Full-day services in both directions arrived on 1 January 2013, and two-car trains were introduced across the Sengkang LRT in December 2015 to cope with growing ridership.

Inside Layar LRT station

Trains calling here are fully automated, with no driver on board, and run as either single cars or two-car sets depending on demand. Since 15 July 2025, a new fleet of two-car trains has been entering service on the line, gradually replacing older vehicles, so passengers at Layar may see both old and new trains during the changeover.

For daily errands and meals, Layar LRT station puts several useful places within easy walking distance.
