The Sengkang LRT is a driverless system made up of two loops that meet at Sengkang station, where passengers can transfer to the North East Line of the MRT network. The people using this stop are mainly residents of the nearby housing estate and anyone travelling to Sengkang General & Community Hospital, which is about three minutes away on foot. For many of them, the LRT is the first leg of a longer journey that continues on the MRT or by bus.
History of Cheng Lim LRT station
When most of the west loop started carrying passengers on 29 January 2005, Cheng Lim was one of three stations left closed, as the surrounding area was still largely undeveloped. It finally opened on 1 January 2013, and that same day the west loop moved to full-day running in both directions. Before then, trains on the loop ran one way for much of the day, with two-way service limited to weekday peak hours from 2010. Only Kupang, which opened in 2015, joined the line later.

Trains here are fully automated, with no driver on board. Since December 2015 the line has run a mix of single-car and two-car trains, and a new two-car fleet that entered service on 15 July 2025 will continue replacing older vehicles until 2028, so the train you board may be either length.
Cheng Lim LRT station is most useful as the closest rail stop to Sengkang General & Community Hospital, about 180 m away. Visitors can get a meal at Koufu @ SKGH, which is equally close, or at the other Koufu food centres within a few minutes’ walk. Residents can reach Sengkang Community Club in around six minutes, while Compass One shopping mall and Sengkang Public Library are both about eight minutes away on foot. Sengkang Bus Interchange is also within walking distance for anyone continuing their trip by bus.
