The Bukit Panjang LRT is a compact, fully automated people mover running for about 8 km through the Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang neighbourhoods. The people using this stop are mostly residents of the surrounding estate. Some are making short trips within the area for shopping, food or errands. Others ride the line to Choa Chu Kang, where it meets the MRT and links them to the rest of the rail network.

History of Fajar LRT station

The Bukit Panjang LRT, which this station belongs to, began carrying passengers on 6 November 1999, making it the first LRT line in Singapore. Before construction, the public were invited to a 1996 exhibition where they could vote on the colours of the trains and the shape of the station roofs. Today the line is in the middle of a major renewal programme covering signalling, power rails and trains, due to finish in 2026.

Inside Fajar LRT station

Trains run as automated two-car sets with no driver on board, so the ride is short and frequent rather than long-distance. Platform barriers were fitted at all stations on the line by 2017, keeping the waiting area separated from the guideway. During the ongoing upgrade works, passengers may notice new trains and systems being introduced along the line.
