The station mainly serves people who live in the surrounding Punggol housing estate. Most riders use it for short trips around the East Loop and for connecting at Punggol station, where both loops meet and passengers can change to the North East Line for journeys further across Singapore. Shoppers and diners heading to the malls and food centres in the area also use it.

History of Meridian LRT station

Meridian opened on 29 January 2005 as one of the five East Loop stations that started service on the first day of the Punggol LRT, in a ceremony led by transport minister Yeo Cheow Tong. In those early years, trains on the East Loop ran in one direction only, following the main flow of commuters towards Punggol in the morning and away from it in the evening. Trains began running in both directions on 20 June 2011, which made short journeys from Meridian much more convenient. Two-car trains followed on the East Loop from 29 December 2016 to handle rising passenger numbers.

Inside Meridian LRT station

Trains calling here are fully automated Crystal Mover vehicles, so there is no driver’s cab and passengers can stand at the very front of the train. A new fleet of two-car trains entered service on the line in 2025, giving riders more space at busy times than the original single cars offered.

For residents, Meridian LRT station is a practical base for everyday errands and meals.
