Damai LRT Station

Damai LRT station (code PE7) is a stop on the East Loop of the Punggol LRT, the light rail line that runs through the town of Punggol. Like every station on the line, it is elevated: trains run on a raised guideway above street level rather than underground. The Punggol LRT is fully automated, so its trains operate without drivers. The line links to the North East Line at Punggol station, the interchange where the East Loop and the West Loop meet.

The station mainly serves people living in the surrounding Punggol estate, a town shaped by the Punggol 21 housing plan announced in 1996, which included a light rail system from the start. For many residents, a trip from here begins with a short ride around the loop to Punggol station, where they change to the North East Line for journeys further afield. Capacity on the line has grown over the years. Two-car trains began running in 2016, and a new fleet of two-car trains entered service in 2025, replacing many of the older single cars.

History of Damai LRT station

When the East Loop began carrying passengers on 29 January 2005, Damai was one of two stations left closed, and Damai LRT station did not open until 20 June 2011. That made it the last East Loop station to welcome passengers, four years after neighbouring Oasis opened in 2007. Its opening brought a useful change for riders: trains on the East Loop started running in both directions. Before then, services ran one way only, anticlockwise in the morning and clockwise in the evening, following the main flow of commuters.
