Like every stop on the Sengkang LRT, the station is elevated, with trains running on a raised viaduct above the streets. The driverless trains mostly serve people who live in the surrounding housing estate. They use the station for short trips to Sengkang station, where they can continue towards the city on the North East Line, and for local journeys around the East Loop.
History of Rumbia LRT station
Rumbia opened with the rest of the East Loop on 18 January 2003, and passengers rode free of charge for the first two days. When the loop began service, about nine in ten Sengkang residents lived along the East Loop, while the West Loop area was still largely undeveloped. The line first ran single-car trains, and two-car trains have operated since December 2015 to cope with growing numbers of passengers.
Inside Rumbia LRT station
Trains at the station are automated Crystal Mover cars with no driver on board. Depending on the service, you may board a one-car or two-car train. A new fleet of two-car trains began entering service on 15 July 2025 and is gradually replacing older vehicles, so you may find yourself on one of the newer sets.
