Getting to Sentosa Island via the Singapore MRT is straightforward. Take the MRT to HarbourFront, walk through VivoCity, and board the Sentosa Express monorail on Level 3.
Take either the North East Line (NEL) or the Circle Line (CCL) to HarbourFront MRT Station (NE1/CC29). Tap out and use Exit E, which leads directly into the basement of VivoCity. Ride the escalators up to Level 3 and head to the Sentosa Express Monorail station. You can pay using a contactless bank card, mobile wallet, or EZ-Link/SimplyGo card.
Quick Takeaways
-
Target station: HarbourFront (NE1/CC29).
-
Transfer point: VivoCity, Level 3 (Sentosa Express).
-
Payment: Contactless bank card (Visa/Mastercard), mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay), or EZ-Link/SimplyGo card.
-
Inbound fare: Entering Sentosa via the monorail costs a small fee. Outbound rides leaving the island are free.
-
Free alternative: The Sentosa Boardwalk is a sheltered walking route from VivoCity Level 1, free to use, and takes around 15 minutes.
Step 1: Taking the MRT to HarbourFront Station
Your target station on the mainland is HarbourFront, which is served by two lines: the purple North East Line (NE1) and the yellow Circle Line (CC29). Both lines stop here, so you have options depending on where you are starting from.
With Circle Line Stage 6 completing the full loop in July 2026, travellers coming from Marina Bay or the CBD can now ride the Circle Line directly to HarbourFront without any transfer. If you are coming from Orchard Road, take the red North South Line to Dhoby Ghaut and transfer to the North East Line. Travellers on the brown Thomson-East Coast Line can change to the Circle Line at Marina Bay or Caldecott.
Both the NEL and CCL bring you to the same HarbourFront station, so there is no single “correct” line. Use whichever requires fewer transfers from your starting point.

Tip: During weekday peak hours, the Circle Line is often slightly less crowded than the North East Line. If both are equally convenient from where you are, the CCL gives you a better chance of getting a seat.

Step 2: Walking Through VivoCity
When you arrive at HarbourFront, follow the signs for Exit E. This exit leads directly into Basement 2 of VivoCity via an air-conditioned walkway, so you will not need to step outside.
VivoCity is a large mall and can get busy on weekends, but the route to Sentosa is well signposted. Look for “Sentosa Express” signs overhead and make your way up from Basement 2 to Level 3.
Escalators in the central atrium are the quickest way up. If you have luggage, a pram or need step-free access, use the central glass lifts instead. The Sentosa Express ticketing counters and boarding gantries are on Level 3.
Step 3: Boarding the Sentosa Express Monorail
Once you reach the Level 3 terminal in VivoCity, you will find transit gantries that work much like the ones at the MRT. Tap through and wait for the next train.
The Sentosa Express is integrated with the national SimplyGo system, so no paper ticket is needed. Tap your contactless bank card, mobile wallet or EZ-Link card directly on the gantry reader to pay.
Trains run every 3 to 5 minutes. The ride gives you elevated views of Keppel Harbour and the cruise terminal as you cross the water.

Understanding the Monorail Stops
The Sentosa Express makes three stops on the island. Knowing where to alight will save you time:
-
Resorts World Station: The first stop after crossing the water. Alight here for Universal Studios Singapore, the S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, or the Resorts World casino and hotels.
-
Imbiah Station: The second stop, near the centre of the island. Get off here for Madame Tussauds, the Skyline Luge, or the cable car line that runs within Sentosa.
-
Beach Station: The final stop, closest to the coastline. Alight here for Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach, Tanjong Beach, and the Wings of Time night show. Free beach shuttles also depart from here.
Tip: After Universal Studios closes or the Wings of Time show ends, Beach Station and Resorts World Station get very crowded. If the queues look long, walk back to VivoCity along the Sentosa Boardwalk instead. It takes about 15 minutes.
Alternative Ways to Cross the Water
The MRT connects you to a couple of other ways to reach Sentosa besides the monorail.
The Sentosa Boardwalk (Walking)
If the weather is reasonable, walking is a good option. Follow the signs from HarbourFront MRT to Level 1 of VivoCity to reach the Sentosa Boardwalk. The covered walkway has travelators and takes about 15 minutes. Island admission via the boardwalk is currently free.
The Singapore Cable Car (Scenic Route)
For a different kind of arrival, take the Singapore Cable Car. From HarbourFront MRT, follow the signs to HarbourFront Tower 2, where you can board for a high-altitude crossing of the harbour, landing at Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa. It costs considerably more than the monorail, but the aerial views of the island and the city are hard to beat.

2026 Fares, Timings, and Payment Methods
Unlike standard MRT fares, which vary by distance, the Sentosa Express charges a single flat entry fee, making it straightforward to budget for.
If you are paying with a foreign-issued card via SimplyGo, you will be charged the standard entry fee. Your home bank may apply its own foreign transaction fee, but there are no extra charges from the system itself.
Here is a quick breakdown of the transit options from HarbourFront to Sentosa:
| Transit Method | Boarding Location | Estimated Cost (SGD) | Travel Time | Frequency / Notes |
| Sentosa Express (Monorail) | VivoCity, Level 3 | $4.00 per person | 5 to 10 mins | Departs every 3-5 mins. Free outbound trips. |
| Sentosa Boardwalk | VivoCity, Level 1 | Free | 15 to 20 mins | Open 24/7. Travelators run until midnight. |
| Singapore Cable Car | HarbourFront Tower 2 | ~$35.00 (Round Trip) | 15 mins | Best for panoramic photography. |
| Public Bus 123 | Various mainland stops | Standard Bus Fare | Varies | Drops off at Beach Station directly. |
Note: Fares are accurate as of early 2026. Child fares and free-entry rules change from time to time, so check the Sentosa website before you go.
Travelling with Luggage, Strollers, and Accessibility
Singapore’s public transport network is built with accessibility in mind. Whether you are lugging suitcases for a Sentosa staycation or pushing a stroller for a family beach day, you will find the journey manageable.
HarbourFront MRT Station has wide fare gates for wheelchairs and large items. At the Sentosa Express entrance on VivoCity Level 3, there is wide gantry access for families and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Every monorail train has designated wheelchair spaces, and the platform gaps are small enough for easy roll-on, roll-off boarding. All three stations on Sentosa are served by lifts connecting to the main pedestrian paths.
Tip: If you are staying at a resort hotel on Sentosa, check with your concierge before you travel. Some hotels offer complimentary access to the Sentosa Express for guests during their stay.
